Some examples of projects in which CanEd International representatives have provided expertise in the above areas include:
  • Canada Ukraine Grain Project (CUGP): Phase 2 Grain Quality and Rural Agriculture Credit Systems in Ukraine Project (CUGP) (www.cugp.com.ua) was developed in direct response to requests from the Ukraine State Inspection on Agricultural Products Quality Control and Monitoring of Markets (SIAP) for training and technical assistance to strengthen and harmonize grain quality classifications and grading standards. The Canada Ukraine Grain Project consists of five integrated components designed to strengthen Ukraine's grain supply chain and build institutional capacity within the Ministry of Agrarian Policy (MAP).

    CUGP's largest component is focused on supporting the development and modernization of a national ISO Accredited Central and Regional Laboratory System for assessing grain quality for domestic and international markets. A second complimentary component includes supporting the revision and development of a national Ukraine wheat standard more closely aligned with international wheat standards The third element involves assisting Ukraine's financial institutions (banks and credit unions) develop and improve critically needed credit products and services for use by Ukraine's grain supply chain, including strengthening the Warehouse Certificate based grain collateral system. The fourth part of the project is the development of a grain focused Market Information System (MIS) supported by improved knowledge of domestic and international grain markets, business planning and risk management practices. The fifth component is gender equality and the supportive roles men and women can engage in throughout Ukraine's grain supply chain.

  • CanEd International Inc. is working in Ukraine to support Rural Credit Systems and Commodity Exchange development. Project expertise is focused on increasing liquidity within the agriculture sector by: 1) assisting in the development and implementation of credit programs using stored commodities as collateral, and 2) assisting commodity exchange activities in targeted regions through the development of appropriate trading rules and procedures that will stimulate and reinforce private initiative throughout the process of agrarian reform. This project is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency and is supported in the Ukraine by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine.

  • Providing consulting services to the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA), the executing agency for the Modernization of Agricultural Health Services Project funded by the Inter-American Development Bank. The objective of this project is to enhance the competitiveness of Belize's agriculture products by improving the quality and financial viability of animal and plant health services to comply with World Trade requirements. CanEd provided consulting services in administration, animal health, plant health, zoo sanitary diagnostic laboratories, food safety, inspection and quarantine.

  • Provided the Canadian Team Leader and Agricultural Economist to a large soil and water project in Egypt. The project focused on the need to conserve water and at the same time increase crop productivity. In addition, new waste-water management practices designed to improve health and hygiene within the farming community were investigated and modified.
  • In conjunction with the International Regional Organization for Plant and Animal Health (OIRSA) based in San Salvador, El Salvador, C.A., developed a producer/exporter-directed and supported agro-sanitary system (standards and regulations) that met intra-regional and international export market requirements.
  • Manager of a project in the former Soviet Union that involved the privatization of agricultural extension services formerly provided by the government including training in on-farm consulting techniques, needs assessment, and business strategies and practices.

  • Developed a Preventive Medicine Training Program for veterinarians in Central America.
  • Developed a marketing and business plan for a pork processing plant in Central America.
  • Led a food-aid needs assessment project for Namibia.
  • Participated in a rain-fed wheat project in Zambia.
